The 2014 World Cup Jerseys: The Worst

Yeah, I know. It’s a cheap shot to take Jorge Campos‘ jersey as the featured image for this post. But hey, it’s because of his jersey that we will never forget this Mexican goalkeeper. Ugly football jerseys are nothing new. Athletic Club Bilbao, Hull City, Australia and Mexico have made huge mistakes in the past. Fortunately, none of the 2014 World Cup jerseys are as bad as these, but there are some missed opportunities, odd decision and jerseys from a different kind of sport.

We have reviewed the best jerseys for the 2014 World Cup, now it is time to look at the worst jerseys of the tournament.

The worst

  • cameroon-jersey-world-cup-2014Cameroon (and Ghana-away): We have talked about the pattern on Ghana’s home jersey, and how it is stylish because they’ve kept the pattern at a reasonable size. Now meet Cameroon’s jersey. The exact opposite of keeping a pattern at a reasonable size. The entire jersey is covered with zig-zag patterns, lions and whatnot.
It may sound like Ghana’s jerseys are sacred to me. Nu uh. Take a look at Ghana’s away jersey. Oops..Cameroon’s jerseys have always been a little.. weird, or not that good looking. Remember the big lion’s head, or the sleeveless jersey? They continue this tradition with their new World Cup jersey in my opinion. Also, the 2014 Cameroon jersey is not really 2014-like, it’s more 1998-like. And even in those days pattern filled jerseys weren’t  well-received, like the Mexican disaster of a jersey..

  • usa-world-cup-jersey-2014United States: Do you like golf? If so, you’ll probably like wearing the US jersey on the golf-course next time. The USA presented this polo-shirt-like jersey for the 2014 World Cup. It’s an entirely white jersey, with red lines on the end of the sleeves and the collar. The red lines are exactly what makes it look like a polo-shirt. There are also thin grey lines running horizontally across the jersey. Again, a great example of a polo-shirt design. The grey lines are good visible in this image. To be honest, this jersey is not even that awful. In fact, it is a great shirt. Than what is it doing in the worst-jersey list? This jersey is not a football jersey. It is something Tiger Woods would wear on the golf-course. Stick to your sport, US soccer jersey.

  • nigeria-world-cup-jersey-2014Nigeria: For the 2014 World Cup, Nigeria has come up with a jersey with two shades of green. The dominant color is not forest-green, the color Nigeria usually wears. They will wear a grass-green jersey with forest-green sleeves and sides. It looks like the jersey is made out of left-over pieces of fabric. They have also chosen to add forest-green vertical lines to the torso. It is just too much, it looks messy.Personally I don´t understand why Nigeria chooses to switch color. I liked their plain forest-green jerseys. That is also the color of their flag. So why would you abandon it as the dominant color of your jersey? It is not the first time Nigeria doesn´t have the best jersey during the World Cup. Their pajama-jersey used during the 1994 World Cup was one of the worst jerseys in the history of time.

These are, in my opinion, the worst jerseys of the 2014 World Cup. For a full overview of the World Cup jerseys, go to 26Kits.com. Do you have a different opinion, shoot in the comments below.
